I remember this series fondly. My school wouldn't allow any radios, so I skipped school and ended up listening to the game in an empty field near my house. Game one was a cold and rainy day here and I came down with a cold and had to stay home for the rest of the series, even though I was sick I never enjoyed myself more until 1984

I am not sure about showing this video. The late Jonnie Woodall was a friend of mine, and was in the British sled at that race. He told me about it. Utterly terrible. This was a dreadful track; cursed I believe, as a number of lives were lost there. I slid a skeleton WC there in 1991. There was a memorial to Nitro in the cafe above Antelao, which was very sobering. He was a great guy, whom everyone loved, and we live in the shadows of these giants.

Gibson pitching on 2 days rest. His opposite number, Mickey Lolich (who should be in Cooperstown) on 3. Greedy stumblebum Flood almost singlehandedly ruined ⚾️ (and other pro sports) by challenging the Reserve Clause: hyperinflation of players' salaries = rising ticket prices, longer, unnatural seasons, and loss of team identity. The Tiger team you are watching was pretty much intact from 1966-1972. You could watch them play for 50 cents. The season ended while it was still warm: this game was on 10/10. Nowadays, it's all Steve Miller: 'Go on, take the $ and run ... Neither players nor owners are sportsmen, doing it for the love of the great game of baseball. 'Build it and they will come ... God bless America.

I was 13 and in junior high school at the time. Color TV was a new thing. My school HAD color TV, and since back then games were played in the afternoon, we students were allowed to stay after school to watch the games and be bussed back home afterwards. What a country we were back then. I can hardly believe it. To have all my classmates SCREAMING after that hit will remain with me the rest of my life.

Ken Burns, in his Baseball ducumentary, lauded Bob Gibson for his 1.12 season earned run average. 1968 was the era of the pitcher. But Burns inexcusably failed to mention Denny McLain's 30 wins that same season. That was just as much evidence of the point Burns was making.

The gen z players of today are so immature compare to these men. NO tattoos, green hair, dreadlocks. Just normal looking men acting like men. Today they act like it's the world series after every regular season game wins.

Both pitchers pitched 9 innings and hit their spot in the order. That's the way the game was made to be played. Most teams had only 4-man starting pitching rotations, and let their pitchers go deep into games if it looked like they still had stuff. Denny McClain won 31 games that year. Today it's a miracle if a pitcher wins twenty, and lucky if he even gets 30 starts.

I fondly remember this jingle. When I first heard it in '69 or so, I recognized it right away as the voice of Ron Dante and the Archies. Now I'm glad to find out I was right! And it's just as good as ever, though I never cared for Tang. I prefer freshly squeezed orange juice, or, even better, Orange Julius! Thanks for bringing this back!

Great Series - Great Comeback by the Tigers! Talk about a difference in what players earned back then vs now: After he retired from baseball, Mickey Lolich owned and operated a little donut shop in Lake Orion, MI. We used to stop in after church to buy donuts, and he would be there working, making donuts and pastries. Met him several times.
